Sharing Google Drive files is simple and easy. Once you get used to this, you will be able to edit your documents in any browser at work or at home from any computer (Mac, Windows PC or Linux).
No more sending emails with attachments and worrying about who has the latest version, or not being able to work from home.
First, please make sure that you are sharing Google Drive files and not Microsoft Word or Excel documents.
- See the image below - the Google Doc icon is a blue square with horizontal lines and Microsoft Word is a blue square with a W.
- You want to make sure the file you are sending is a Google Doc icon.
- To convert a Microsoft Word or Excel file, open the file in Google Drive and it will automatically be converted to a Google Drive file type.
To share a Google Doc or Google Sheet, login to your Google Drive.
- Click the blue Share button on the top right side of your browser.
- Do not share Google Folders, but share each Google Doc or Google Sheets individually.
- See image below.
Setting Proper Permissions
- Enter email address of the person you want to share with.
- Click the Pencil icon dropdown and make sure you select "Can edit"
